Why would you need to do that?

So in one of my photography classes we discussed the importance of locking your pictures on your SD card. My teacher explained how he lost an entire trip to Florida because he accidentally erased them on his camera. I thought what an idoit, how can you erase everthing? Well sad to say "I pulled a Monica". Here is what happened:

On sat. we had another field trip up AF canyon. I took about 250 pics of the river, dogs anything scenic I could find. Honestly I probably only had about 20 really interesting pictures, the rest I was working on composition, getting the correct exposure and so they weren't that great. I was so excited because I learned some new techniques so I quickly drove home and took the kids to the Mt. Timp temple to do some pics around the grounds. That didn't turn out too well because my kids were more interested in the birds in the trees than looking at me. And for some reason people frown at the idea of a mom yelling at her kids, "look at the camera, sit still, Brent get down from there" on the temple grounds, I can't understand why?
Anyways after a very successful(ha whatever) day I went to my computer to edit my pics. As I was converting my NEF files to DNG (some Nikons have to be converted for photoshop, freak'n nikons) my pics were corrupted and I lost every picture I took. Yep EVERY FREAK'N PICTURE! And then I remembered my teacher saying don't forget to lock your pictures. Needless to say I was sick the rest of the night. I was so upset with myself because our tuesday class is just on critiques from our fieldtrip. I love the critique day, even though it sucks, because I learn more from it than anything else. And believe me my teacher isn't afraid to tell you what he thinks.

Well sad to say I have personally learned the importance of locking my pics. I'm still mad about this.

Happy Birthday Jill

Jill and Steve went out on sat for her birthday, and we babysat Blake and Easton. While Steve and Jill were gone we made Jill a cake. Blake and Ry wanted to decorate the cake and I suck at writing on cakes so I made it easy. We did Happy Birthday candles, and here is how it turned out...

Jill liked it and so did the kids. But just to give everyone a heads up, these candles melt extremely fast, the B on birthday is melted quite a bit and we barely lit them when I took the pictures. Despise that we all had fun.

How we missed the sun!

I don't know anyone who isn't ready for spring. Brent can't wait to go outside and play ball. I needed to take some pics of the kids for my class and by the time I was finished, so was Ry. I never thought Ry would ever get sick of posing...but we have reached that point.

I love the glare she is giving, but I don't know why this picture has such a blue tint, thank goodness for photoshop.

A little better.

The playhouse part II

We had such great weather this past week, that we ended up spending most of our time outside. Brent and I discussed how we wanted to finish the playhouse. We talked about ladders, rock walls, slides, cargo nets, the type of railing on the top deck, and so on. The great thing about having a contractor for a husband is that he can do everything himself....LOVE THAT! This year we knew we wouldn't be able to do much to the playhouse, thanks to the current economy. But I am proud of what we have accomplished so far.

This is where we stood with the playhouse around June of last year.

Brent started on the railing on the top deck and finished the cargo net.

So we thought the cargo net would be a great idea for getting up on top. But when it came down to it, it's really hard to get up there. I actually got stuck and Brent had to help me down. So we are coming up with a plan B. We know we need a ladder, but where? will we still do a slide? Ugh! I just want it finished.

Rylee stories

My dad calls every sunday and asks if I have a Rylee story for him, and I usually do. I decided I would share a couple of my favorite Rylee stories.

Daddy: Ry you are making a mess with your paints.
Rylee: well, Dad art is messy.

Mommy: whoever lost my hairbrush is going to get a big spank'n.
Rylee: That's probably going to be me.

I was cutting Ry's bangs for the first time and Ry was a little nervous.
Mommy: don't worry it will look fine.
Rylee: um mom this isn't sensible.
She is only 4! I have no idea where she even heard that word.

We had to go pick up Maddie from school one day for Andy and on the way home Maddie got out of her seat to grab a toy.
Me: Maddie you need to get back in your seat.
Maddie: how did you know I was out of my seat.
Me: I have eyes in the back of my head.
Rylee leaned close to Maddie and with big eyes she said: My mom has eyes in the back of her head!
Then about a week later Ry came home from preschool and told me:
Ry: Mom! you do not have eyes in the back of your head!

Uncle Russell: Hey Ry why don't you show Ilias what's neat inside your playhouse.
Ry: Not much.

I have photoshop now!!

So I was finally able to get photoshop. This program is amazing and quite complicated. I am just beginning, ok I have absolutely no idea what I am doing, but I am trying to learn as much as I can. I just learned a little about B&W photos and here Ry on her bike.

Who knew B&W photos could get so complex. If anyone knows of a good photoshop class, let me know!
